Job description

Lena Anders is a PhD student with the i2B Into the Blue project, focusing on Arctic paleoclimate research. Her work investigates interglacial periods in the Arctic Ocean, aiming to reconstruct past climate conditions to better understand future climate scenarios. Lena’s research involves analyzing sediment cores, using proxies such as foraminifera, stable isotopes, and biomarkers to study sea ice dynamics and ocean temperatures. She is particularly interested in exploring periods older than MIS-5, where limited data exists. Her work contributes to filling critical gaps in our understanding of the Arctic’s climatic history. Before her PhD, Lena earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology from the University of Innsbruck, where she developed a strong foundation in paleoclimate studies. She worked as a research assistant reconstructing Miocene temperatures using cave deposits, and gained expertise in stable isotope analysis. Her academic journey has included fieldwork in Svalbard, outreach projects in Greenland, and a transition from terrestrial to marine sciences.
