Job description
My latest work is my doctoral dissertation, which is titled “Vulnerability for Refugee Protection: Refugees’ Non-Asylum-Grounding Vulnerability and the Duty of States to Restore Refugees’ Social Membership”. The dissertation engages with a current debate in refugee studies about how the concept of vulnerability is applied in refugee reception and integration policies to hierarchize and differentiate refugees’ access to reception and integration measures, thereby creating gaps in the protection of refugee rights. It argues that these protection gaps are, at least partly, linked to a limited understanding of the concept of ‘vulnerability’ employed in current policies. Rather than rejecting the notion of vulnerability as applied to the context of forced displacement, the thesis seeks to highlight its necessity by engaging with the ethics of vulnerability and introducing the concept of ‘non-asylum-grounding vulnerability’ to current discussions in refugee studies as well as to the literature on forced displacement justice.
Alongside my doctoral dissertation, I have recently reviewed Amy Reed Sandoval's book Intimate Borders for Hypatia and worked on a book chapter for the NFR-project SKJØNN (https://en.uit.no/project/skjonn).
