Floor van den Berg
Job description
I'm a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Language and Culture in the Neurocognitive Outcomes of Bilingualism and Effects on Language Learning (NOBELL) project, in which we investigate to what extent any neurocognitive predispositions for additional language learning rate/outcomes are influenced by individual differences in bilingual experience.
Research interests
My research broadly investigates how individual differences in bilingual experience impact (neuro)cognition, language processing, and additional language learning across the adult lifespan. Particularly, I've studied:
- how lifetime bilingualism and language learning in later life influence cognitive aging trajectories and outcomes;
- how different levels of bilingual engagement are associated with cognitive flexibility and cognitive effort measured by pupil dilation; and
- how differences in multilingual language use affect language processing in multilinguals in communities where code-switching is the norm (Belize, Central America; Benin, West Africa).
