Espen Åberg

Job description

I have a background in Molecular biotechnology with a PhD in molecular medicine.
After the PhD I specialized the wet lab skills in biological signaling networks, human and Malaria kinomics and drug design before shifting to cancer genomics at the Norwegian Cancer Genomics Consortium. I then moved into the field of bioinformatics, focusing on genomics infectious medicine and the interactions between host and microbes during colonization and infection, using next generation sequencing.

Currently I hold the position of Service Coordinator for ELIXIR Norway, overseeing both national and international services. I lead the data submission task forces and metadata platform initiatives, playing a role in various European projects under ELIXIR.

Additionally, I am engaged in educational activities, delivering expert instruction in data management and planning, bioinformatics, and genomics/metagenomics. As a certified data steward I actively manage data for multiple projects, collaborating closely with prominent health and research institutions across Norway.
