Youri van Logchem
Job description
Youri van Logchem (LLB, LLM, PhD, FHEA) is an Associate Professor of Law (Law of the Sea & Environmental Law) at the Norwegian Centre for the Law of the Sea at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway where he is also the Academic Director of the LLM in Law of the Sea. Before that, he was a senior lecturer at the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law at Swansea University and a PhD fellow at the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS), at Utrecht University. Youri has published widely on law of the sea issues, including on submarine cables, autonomous ships, Arctic shipping, and maritime boundary disputes. Youri’s work has been cited before international courts and tribunals. His monograph entitled “The Rights and Obligations of States in Disputed Maritime Areas” was published with Cambridge University Press in 2021. Youri has also received awards for academic achievements, including the Rhodes Academy Submarine Cables Award.
