Job description

I am a historian with northern Norway and north-west Russia as my research field, working at the intersection of memory studies, cultural heritage studies and minority history. In recent years I have studied how the Second World War and the Soviet past are remembered, managed and contested in the area where Norway and Russia meet — from wartime heritage in protected border areas and the cultural diplomacy of the 1970s to the war's heritage sites and their political afterlives. In parallel, I have studied the indigenous peoples of the Russian North, particularly the history of the Sámi and the Komi: national sports as a political instrument in Soviet and post-Soviet times, as well as everyday life, gender and care in isolated northern communities. I work with sources in Russian and Norwegian, visual materials and ethnographic fieldwork.
