Evolution and Lifehistory Strategy

Theoretical subject. The course is offered on condition that a minimum number of students register for the course.

The course will cover life history theory especially related to the management of natural populations. It will be emphasised to illustrate the relationship between reproductive effort and the reproductive value in different species. For instance how should a long-lived species adjust their reproductive effort compared to a short-lived species with a low residual reproductive value. Sex ratio theory using a life history approach will also be an important part of the course. Should a female reindeer in good body condition produce male or female offspring. The theory will be illustrated using examples both from humans and other animals.

The language of instruction is English and all of the syllabus material is in English. Examination questions will be given in English, but may be answered either in English or a Scandinavian language.

Oral exam. Letter grades, A-F.
There will not be arranged a re-sit exam for this course. Postponed examination will be arranged early in the next semester.
