Course contents
The course treats basic sea-environmental factors, some general oceanographic principles, phytoplankton, zooplankton and benthos. The main focus will be on dynamics, i.e. how the marine organisms function as part of the marine system and how they interact and respond to changes in environment. The main weight in zoology will be on invertebrates. The laboratory exercises will be an introduction to plankton experimental techniques. The cruise is project oriented and much focus will be on handling of instrumentation and data processing. The subjects BIO-2501 and BIO-2502 can be studied in the same semester. The lessons of instruction are given either in Norwegian or English if necessary.
