Course contents
The main themes are:
- Geophysical growth regime of northern phytoplankton
(hydrophysics, elements and irradiance)
- Communities and dynamics (species composition, taxonomy,
ice flora, bloom dynamics)
- Selected themes, e.g. "biological pump", "usefulness of field
research"
- Extensive written project in scientific format in English
Objective of the course
The course deals with important basic (classical) and advanced aspects of high latitude phytoplankton, i.e. the species of northern microalgae communities and characteristics of the environment they thrive in. It builds on BIO-35XX that shall qualify to write a extensive project.
Teaching methods
The written project will be tutored in groups and during seminars.
Assessment methods
Evaluation of written project. Pass/not pass.
