Functional genomics

Practical examples will be taken from plant genomics, but the course is suitable for biologists in all fields. Topics of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics will be covered. The course will concentrate on data mining and the use of bioinformatics for the analysis of genes and proteins.

Students will work web-based for the course to perform computer based tasks and prepare a seminar talk on one of the subjects. Students taking the course will meet at the University of Tromsø for one week (2-6. May 2011), where lectures, student seminars and computer practise will take place.

A web-based course aimed to give PhD students theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of functional genomics.

The language of instruction is English and all of the syllabus material is in English. Examination questions will be given in English, but may be answered either in English or a Scandinavian language.

The curriculum for this course will be a collection of selected primary literature which will be available on the web.
