About the course
Theoretical and practical subjects
The course is an advanced course in aquaculture covering topics such as fish genetics, fish disease and interactions between farmed and wild stocks. Focus is placed on relevant biotechnological developments and the sustainability of modern aquaculture practices. Commercial applications and ecological issues pertinent to fish biotechnologies and feed management are discussed. The course is organized in three theoretical and one practical module. The practical part is both field- and lab-based, and involves the delivery of activity reports.

Objectives of the course
The course will give students information on recent advances in fish genetics, breeding, nutrition and health.
Students having completed Bio-3011 Advances in Aquaculture are expected to:
Have knowledge on principles of fish breeding, nutrition and health.
Have understanding of the challenges facing modern aquaculture industry in particular with reference to
environmental and conservation issues.
Obtain practical experience (hands-on) in techniques of artificial fertilization, chromosome manipulation and
useful molecular analytical tools.
Are able to read and understand scientific literature.
