International Marketing
About the course
This course can be taken as a singular course.
The course introduces the students to different theoretical perspectives on internationalization and marketing issues in foreign markets. Through various course activities the students will become familiar with different theoretical approaches that help explain how companies may enter and expand into foreign markets and why. An important part of doing business is establishing business relationships. This course will introduce the students to challenges that business partners may encounter when establishing and developing business relationships in a cross-cultural context, and how these challenges could be managed.
Admission requirements
Local admission, application code 9371 Master`s level singular course.
Students have to hold a bachelor's degree, (180 ECTS).
The Norwegian grading system is an A-F scale in which A is the highest score and F is fail. An average grade C from a bachelor degree issued in Norway is the minimum requirement for admission to the master's level for students with Norwegian study background. For applicants from outside of Norway, an average grade equivalent to a Norwegian C is required.
Objectives of the course
Knowledge
- The candidate has knowledge about alternative internationalization processes that could be considered by a firm.
- The candidate has knowledge about potential barriers to the internationalization of the firm.
- The candidate is aware of potential challenges that may occur in cross-cultural business relationships and has knowledge about how such challenges could be managed.
Skills
- The candidate is capable to acquire information from different sources and of using this information to discuss a defined problem and build well-reasoned arguments.
- The candidate is capable to carry out work independently and in group.
- The candidate is capable to carry out a project which objective is to plan a firm’s internationalization process.
Competence
- By taking part in the group assignment and presentations, the candidate has acquired competences including teamwork, problem-solving, and communication.
- Based on the knowledge and skills acquired, the candidate is capable to engage in work tasks and projects related to the internationalization and marketing activities of the firm.
- Students that do not have the English language as their mother tongue advance their English skills.
- The candidate is capable to present and explaining research results and key concepts rooted in the field of international marketing research.

If you pass the examination in this course, you will get an reduction in credits (as stated below), if you previously have passed the following courses:
- BED-3077 International marketing 7.5 ects

To take an examination the student must have passed the following course requirements:
Requirement 1: The student must engage in the presentation of an article (together with others)
Requirement 2: The students will practice a roleplay (cross-cultural communication). The students must prepare and engage in negotiations and take part in the discussions afterwards.
Requirement 3: Presentation of the group assignment. The groups must present the group assignment in class. Each member of the group has to contribute in the presentation.
