As a student at UiT, it is important that you follow the HSE rules that apply to you.
Overview of what you should know
Hazardous work
If you are going to work in laboratories, workshops, participate in fieldwork or research cruises, you must familiarise yourself with the relevant HSE rules. You will receive these rules from your faculty or department.
- Necessary safety training is defined as a coursework requirements in the study programme or the study of courses.
Students inpractice
As a student in practical training, you have the right to information about how the practical training institution takes care of HSE. You will get this information from the faculty or department.
- HSE non-conformities, serious incidents, injuries, accidents and near misses must always be reported to UiT, even when you are in practice.
Report non-conformity
- UiT wants you as a student to speak up if you experience difficult situations or see opportunities for improvement.
- Serious incidents, injuries, accidents and near accidents must always be reported.
- You can also make suggestions for improvements.
Insurance for students
As a student, you are insured in various situations.

If you are working in hazardous workig environment, you have the same rights and obligations as employees.In other study situations, the Universities and University Colleges Act applies.
Pregnant as a student
Pregnant students who work in hazardous workig environment, have the same rights and obligations as employees. You will receiveinformation from your faculty or department.

Learning environment and HSE
In the daily study situation, when you sit in reading rooms, in auditoriums, in computer rooms or the like, the provisions of the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges apply.

Ph.D. Students
Employment Contract at UiT
- Ph.D. Students who have an employment contract with UiT are considered employees of the university.
- For Ph.D Students registered at UiT butemployed by another organization, the faculty/unit must ensure that employer responsibilities are clarified in writing. inThis includes how health, safety, and environment (HSE) will be addressed. You will receive this information from your faculty or department.
