The Department of Community Medicine is dedicated to advancing public health, reducing health disparities, and ensuring the accessibility of data from our four extensive population-based studies for research purposes. Our primary research themes include population-based epidemiology of non-communicable diseases, biomarker research, health economics, health services research, medical humanities, occupational health and general practice.

The 2019 Research Council of Norway (RCN) research environment support project, Healthy Choices, has been instrumental for the Department, intensifying our collaborative efforts and research focus on societal changes in risk factors, evolving disease trends, the hereditary aspects of health behaviours, enduring health disparities, and the escalating need for healthcare services.

Departmental researchers lead and participate in national and international research projects funded by the EU, the RCN and other organizations. Additionally, the Department contributed to the education of future scientists through the research school EPINOR (National research school in population based epidemiology).
