CSET: Critical Studies of Educational Technologies (UiT chapter)

CSET is a global network for researchers adopting critical perspectives on educational technologies founded by Neil Selwyn at Monash University. ENCODE has established a UiT-based chapter as one of the research group's sub-projects.

Critical focus on emerging technologies both in education and beyond is more important than ever. CSET's UiT chapter is an attempt to create a hub that brings together individual researchers and groups at UiT working within such frames. The group will write funding proposals with a critical framing and engage in public and scholarly debates. CSET UiT currently runs a regular reading group on critical perspectives on AI

Recent activities include:

Symposium Critical Perspectives on AI in Higher Education (Aug. 12, 2026 from 09:00 to 16:30 at UiT room AUD Nedre Lysthus) funded by IFF and ENCODE.

Reading group on critical approaches to AI.

Book project 'KI i skolen' (headed by Christina Lentz).

Call for action on AI in higher education (headed by Maria Danielsen).

Finalized project AI-EDU (headed by Christina Lentz and Holger Pötzsch).

The UiT chapter is coordinated by Maria Danielsen (UiT). Members are Knut Ørke, Holger Pötzsch, Christina Lentz (all UiT), and Therese H. Hansen (Kvaløya VGS).
