Maritime Infrastructure

Norway has the longest coastline in Europe, build upon the proud maritime tradition that span over centuries. Historically, Norway relied on fishing, shipping and marine operations that laid the foundation for its current leadership in offshore oil and gas operations. Norway, is at the forefront of offshore drilling and exploration in the North sea, establishing a robust industry that contributed to its economy and shaped technological expertise in the harsh environment.

Today, offshore wind, oil platforms, fish farming, ports and maritime infrastructure are vital sectors where structural health monitoring can play a crucial role. Offshore platforms and structures endure extreme weather and corrosive conditions, where continuous monitoring can increase safety and operational efficiency that can decrease the downtime of the infrastructure.

Fish farms in norther Norway face unique challenges like escape of farmed fish to the fjords or sea that pose a serious problem to ecological integrity and sustainability of the fish farming industry. SHM systems for the fish farming industry could detect wear and tear, structural fatigue that could safeguard investments and reduce environmental impacts.

ArcIN group have interests in developing such solutions that could support Norway’s robust maritime industry, maintaining safety standards for climate adaptation in the Arctic and ensuring sustainable exploitation of resources for future generations.

SARex is an initiative to improve search and rescue (SAR), acute pollution response, and salvage across Norway’s Arctic waters. It combines research, full-scale exercises, and industry-authority collaboration to turn hard-worn field lessons into practical capabilities that save lives, protect the environment, and safeguard assets.
