Maria Medby Tollefsen
Job description
Maria Medby Tollefsen is the course coordinator for aural training at the Music Conservatory in Tromsø. She teaches the modules Listening and Aural Skills within the Bachelor's Programme in Music Performance, and Aural Skills and Aural Skills Pedagogy within the Master's Programme in Aural Skills Pedagogy. Maria is also affiliated with the Master's Programme in Aural Skills Pedagogy at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma. She is an active member of a European network of aural skills educators and regularly delivers workshops on aural skills pedagogy both nationally and internationally.
Maria leads a national research and development project focusing on entrance examinations in aural skills and music theory for higher music education, including the development of new national assessment instruments. She is also involved in Notenett, a collaborative project between UiT The Arctic University of Norway and the University of Bergen, which aims to advance research and dissemination in the fields of music literacy and notation pedagogy. In addition, Maria serves on the steering group of MaGe (Diversity in Aural Skills Education), a cross-institutional Scandinavian development project dedicated to creating and evaluating teaching materials for aural skills based on music composed by women.
Her broader research and development activities centre on the advancement of teaching methodologies and the pedagogical use of digital learning resources. She is actively engaged in the ongoing development of the discipline of aural skills through the creation of new educational materials, including multimedia-based digital resources.

Maria is also involved in Notenett, a collaborative initiative between lecturers in aural skills and music education at UiT The Arctic University of Norway and University of Bergen. Teaching
Maria teaches the module Listening and Aural Skills within the Bachelor's Programme in Music Performance, and the modules Professional Skills and Aural Skills Pedagogy within the Master's Programme in Aural Skills Pedagogy. She also supervises master's students during their teaching placements and provides academic supervision for master's dissertations.
Maria serves as the academic coordinator for the Conservatory’s aural skills curriculum.
In addition, she teaches on the Master's Programme in Aural Skills Pedagogy at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito Parma (Italy).
