Trond Trosterud

Job description

I hold a doctoral degree in theoretical linguistics with a work on inflectional paradigm structure in Uralic languages. I mostly work on Sámi language technology, but also on computer linguistic analyzes of other circumpolar languages and on the sociolinguistics of these languages. I have also done research on lexicography. In addition, I am interested in and have taught Sami language history and the history of Sámi linguistics.

Research interests

  • Sámi language technology: Morphological and syntactic parsing and disambiguation with grammatical methods (finite state automata, control grammar, machine translation)
  • Sámi grammar: Sami syntax and morphology
  • Other research fields: Language planning, written language, circumpolar languages
