Magritt Brustad


Job description

Magritt Brustad is a professor of Nutritional Epidemiology and is involved in several research projects and initiatives. She is the principal investigator of the interdisciplinary research project Resilient North, funded by the Research Council of Norway.

She is the leader of the study programs for the Bachelor's in Nutrition and Master's in Clinical Nutrition at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UIT. She organizes and oversees the daily operations and ongoing development of these study programs while representing them in relevant local (UIT) and national forums. In addition to supervising Ph.D. students, she engages with students at the Master's and Bachelor levels.

Research interests

Most of her research is within epidemiology and is based on large population-based studies such as the Norwegian Women and Cancer study and the Tromsø Study. She also has extensive experience working with data from the SAMINOR study, the Dental Health in the North study, and the European Investigation into Nutrition and Cancer (EPIC).

Vitamin D and health has been her area of expertise for more than two decades, and she has been recognized and consulted as an expert in this field both nationally and internationally in various contexts.

One of Magritt's current main interests is preparedness and food security from a public health perspective, particularly related to the situation in the Northern region. She leads a comprehensive, multidisciplinary Research Council-funded project on food preparedness and public health in Northern Norway called Resilient North.

She also conducts a clinical controlled study on vitamin D and periodontitis and collaborates on oral health projects with the Public Dental Service Competence Centre of Northern Norway, where she holds an adjunct appointment.

Teaching
