Anniken Førde
Job description
Anniken Førde, Ph.D., is a professor of Community Planning at the Department of Social Sciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. She is the Ph.D. coordinator at the department and the leader of the research group Place, Power, and Mobility.
Førde has extensive experience in collaborative and interdisciplinary research, with a particular focus on urban and regional development in the north. Her research explores topics such as place-based transformation processes, place-sensitive planning, tourism, changing landscapes, diverse cities, multispecies place-making, innovation, and improvisation.
Through her work, she has developed a special interest in creative and innovative approaches to planning and development. She is committed to fostering meaningful collaboration across disciplines and between academic and non-academic environments, aiming to generate knowledge that contributes to sustainable and inclusive societies.

Research interests
Førde has an interdisciplinary approach to her research, which spans a wide range of topics: place-based transformation processes, place-sensitive planning, responsible tourism development, inclusive and diverse cities, innovation and improvisation in planning and development processes, more-than-human relations, and multispecies place-making.
Teaching
Førde teaches community planning at UiT at both the bachelor's and master's levels, as well as in the joint Nordic master's program Nordic Urban Planning Studies. She also teaches place development as part of continuing and further education programs. Her teaching places particular emphasis on methodology and philosophy of science.
