Job description

I am professor in Scandinavian linguistics, and I research and teach within sociolinguistics.



Research interests

In my research I explore language situations in Northern Norway from the perspective of sociolinguistics. My current research topics are language policy for historical minorities in the Arctic (Sámis and Kvens/Norwegian Finns). Important key words are (de)coloniality, language policy, research ethics, reconciliation, language reclamation, multilingualism, language ideologies, place and citizenship. 

I am pricipal investigator of the project Multilingualism in Transitions (MultiTrans), funded by the Research Council of Norway (2021-2026).

In addition I have the project Living Arctic Coloniality.

 

Teaching

I teach about languages and language situations in Norway. 

Spring 2026 I teach the following subjects:

  • Linguistic diversity and speech and writing
  • Multilingualism

Autumn 2025 I teach the following subjects: 

  • Norwegian as second language
  • Lingusitic theories and methods
  • Scandinavian studies in society
  • Indigenous Revitalization - Languages, Literature and Arts
