Rory Burford

Job description

Environmental biogeochemist: Rory studies water quality and the chemistry of rivers, particularly in glaciated regions. They are the engineer responsible for the Polar Laboratory for Microbes & Aquatic Geochemistry in Icy Climes (Polar MAGIC).

Rory has studied mountain glaciers in Peru, Chile, India and Canada, as well as blue ice area samples from Antarctica. Their PhD thesis (University of Bristol, 2024) described the impacts of acid rock drainage on glacial rivers in the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca.

Rory is also an amateur science communicator, who occasionally uploads explainer videos to this YouTube channel.
