ECOGIV – Training and institutional meetings at Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP)

RUPP,  Cambodia, 11-13 November 2024

From November 11 to 12, 2025, ECOGIV successfully organized a training course entitled “Bioeconomic Modelling and Environmental Valuation” within the framework of the Leave No One Behind (LNOB) component at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP). This short course was part of the project’s broader capacity-building efforts to enhance academic knowledge and research competencies in sustainable resource management and environmental valuation in the South.

The training program was delivered by two lecturers: Bui Bich Xuan and Quach Thi Khanh Ngoc, both key members of Nha Trang University. With extensive experience in fisheries economics, natural resource management, and environmental valuation, the two lecturers provided the participants with not only theoretical foundations but also insights into the practical application of these tools in the context of sustainable aquaculture, fisheries management, and biodiversity conservation.

The two-day course brought together over 30 participants, including lecturers, researchers, master’s and PhD students, and practitioners from universities, research institutes, and development organizations involved in environmental and resource economics in Cambodia. The participants represented a diverse range of disciplines, such as economics, environmental science, and marine resource management, reflecting the interdisciplinary emphasis of the ECOGIV project.

Beyond classroom activities, the training also served as an important opportunity for institutional collaboration. The ECOGIV project team met with representatives of RUPP to explore potential collaboration areas. Discussions focused on prospects for joint research projects and future training opportunities. Both ECOGIV team and RUPP recognized the importance of continuous cooperation to build a strong academic network capable of addressing cross-border environmental and socio-economic challenges in the Mekong region.
