Objectives

This is a networking activity based on workshops and desk studies, aiming at high practical and scientific quality and value in terms of research excellence with the purpose to establish clusters of excellence.

On practical level, the project identifies the possibilities for enhancing cooperation in both research and education in the field of Societal Security between the Nordic countries and North-West Russia as well as identify the common interests and respective goals.

On scientific level, the project  will result into a series of academic articles in the field, to be suggested to be published in suitable peer reviewed journals in 2018.  

Long-term perspectives of the project:

The long-term perspective of the project is to enhance, or even institutionalise the cooperation of the partner countries in the field of Societal Security.

In research, cooperation between researchers from different institutions and countries is usually project-based. However, in order to quickly establish project consortia when a suitable call is available, one has to have ready-made trusted network of partners. The project definitely facilitates this goal.

In education, the long-term perspective is to create, first, teacher mobility programmes in this field between the participating universities. This can in the longer run be spill over to student mobility programmes. The aim is also, at least to some extent to harmonise or approximate the vocabulary of the emerging discipline, facilitate curricula development based on shared expectations. Finally, the project will contribute to the development and constitution of Societal Security by defining this concept in a systematic, holistic global context and as a full-fledged discipline per se.

If possible, this will lead to an  action plan for permanent cooperation between the participating institutions and countries. The project most likely will result to some spontaneous network of joint research and educational activities even without external funding, but the project will lay a ground for conscious approach towards this goal.
