Governance of Arctic Shipping: Balancing Rights and Interests of Arctic States and User States.

Due to melting sea ice, new sea routes have opened up through the Arctic. Arctic coastal States and Asian States have different interests when it comes to shipping through these newly-created sea routes between Europe and Asia. How to balance these different interests?

These are the questions addressed in the book, Governance of Arctic Shipping: Balancing Rights and Interests of Arctic States and User States, published by Brill in September 2017. The book will be launched at a side event during the Arctic Frontiers 2018.

At the Side Event the presentations will focus on potential cooperative mechanisms for balancing rights and interests of Arctic States and user States in light of experiences with Southeast Asian cooperative mechanisms.
