Simula is an internationally-leading Norwegian research institution in five key ICT areas: communication systems, scientific computing, software engineering, machine learning, and cryptography. Dedicated to tackling scientific challenges with long-term impact and of genuine importance to real life, Simula offers an environment that emphasises and promotes basic research. At the same time, Simula is deeply involved in research education with 55 PhD students, 60 master’s students, and 45 postdoctoral fellows supervised annually.

One exciting upcoming opportunity at Simula is the 9th annual Summer School in Computational Physiology, which takes place from June 19-30 in Oslo and August 7-15 at the University of California San Diego.  The curriculum focuses on fundamental principles of mathematical modeling in electrophysiology and biomechanics of the heart and brain, and related topics in machine learning. The summer school is tailored to interest first- and second-year PhD students and MSc students and offers 10 ECTS credits from UiO at both the MSc or PhD level. Simula offers travel grants to all accepted applicants, designed to cover major costs associated with travel and all housing. Applications close on 14 February – more information at simula.no/sscp.

Simula currently has many other opportunities available to interested students. Examples include internships, MSc projects, PhD and postdoctoral positions. Learn more at our website, or by contacting SUURPh Programme Coordinator Dr. Kimberly McCabe, kimberly@simula.no.
