MiMa Annual Meeting, 23–24 November 2026 (lunch to lunch)

Join us at the MiMa annual meeting, 23 –24 November 2026 (lunch-lunch), hosted by the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Ås. The meeting will start at approximately 12:00 on 23 November and end around 14:00 on 24 November. All registered MiMa members are welcome to apply (PhD candidates, research track students, PIs and MiMa partners). You must register as a MiMa member before admission to the MiMa annual meeting.

Registration and abstract submission:

Please register via this online form by September 1: https://nettskjema.no/a/633585

All PhD and research track students are required to submit an abstract (instructions are found in the online form). You can choose whether you would like to apply for a short oral presentation or a poster presentation.

Accommodation:

MiMa will book and cover hotel accommodation for all participants, except those residing in Ås or the Oslo area. PhD and research track students will be accommodated in shared (double) rooms. Students requesting a single room must cover the additional cost themselves (i.e. the difference between the single-room rate and the covered shared-room rate). Other participants may be provided with a single room.

Travel:

Travel will not be covered for everyone. Travel costs will be covered for the following groups

  • PhD and research‑track students
  • Director of Studies (DOS) for MiMa
  • MiMa board members
  • One representative from each partner institution that does not have a DOS or a MiMa board member
  • Presenters/speakers who are not DOS or MiMa board members

You must book your own tickets. Flights must be economy class (compare multiple airlines to find the best price), but train/bus/car travel can also be an option. Book early or take advantage of sales to keep costs down. You can check the Entur app for regional train routes from Oslo airport to Ås.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed after the meeting by registration in the self-service portal DFØ at UiT.

Reimbursement is subject to maximum amounts, which apply to the total travel costs for the whole trip (including flight, train, bus, and car). Any travel costs exceeding the maximum must be covered by the participant. The maximum reimbursement amounts are:

  • Tromsø: Up to 3500 NOK
  • Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger: Up to 3000 NOK
  • Hamar: Up to 800 NOK
  • Oslo area: Up to 500 NOK
Please consider the following before booking your travel:
  • Booking: If you are a MiMa member, you are free to book your travel once you have registered for the meeting. You don't have to wait for a confirmation of your participation.
  • MiMa course after annual meeting: The morning after the MiMa annual meeting, the course "Microbiology matters – concepts and approaches" will begin in Oslo. Students who wish to attend must apply for admission. Places are limited, so do not book your return ticket until your course participation has been confirmed. Applicants will be notified after the application deadline on September 1. You are still encouraged to book your outbound travel early to get the best price to attend the annual meeting.
  • PhD association: MiMa PhD students have just established an interim board for a MiMa PhD Association. They plan to hold the association’s first general meeting to elect a permanent board immediately after the MiMa annual meeting, followed by a dinner for all the MiMa PhD and research track students. If this may concern you, consider these events when booking your travel.
Programme:

The programme will include:

  • Oral and poster presentations by PhD and research track students, showcasing current research across the field.
  • Inspiring keynote talks (tentative titles) from academia, industry, and public health institutions, including:
