Welcome to a CANS seminar presented by:
Prof. Jörgen Johansson, University of Umeå, Sweden.
Title of presentation: Turning the tide: New antibacterials resensitizing antibiotic resistant bacteria
Date: Wednesday 22. February, 15:00-15:45
Where: MH1, Aud 3
Prof. Jörgen Johansson defended his PhD at Umeå University, Sweden in 2000, working with nucleoid-associated proteins in E. coli. The same year he started as a postdoc at Institut Pasteur, working in the group of Prof. Pascale Cossart with RNA-mediated virulence regulation in Listeria monocytogenes. During these years, he identified an RNA-based thermosensoer that controls virulence gene expression in Listeria. In 2003, Prof. Johansson returned to Umeå University to start his own group working mainly with Listeria but lately also with other bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus.
Prof. Johansson’s research interests spans RNA-mediated (virulence) regulation, bacterial stress-sensing and development of new types of antibacterial drugs, targeting bacterial viability and/or virulence.
Prof. Johansson is also a member of the Scientific advisory board in CANS.
