The sámi multimedia artist Gjert Rognli challenges the museum's polar narratives through a number of art works in the main exhibitions.
Through a series of free-standing art works, the sámi multimedia artist Gjert Rognli challenges the museum’s main exhibitions. The works open up for reflections on history’s blind spots and interpretations of reality. Gjert Rognli is from Manndalen, Kåfjord, and is one of the most important present artists of Sápmi. His performances, sculptures, films and photos have been shown both nationally and internationally. Rognli comes to Tromsø from artist residencies in Iceland and New York. He has received more than 20 awards for his art in 2022 alone.
The art works is displayd as a part of the museum’s self-produced exhibiton "Queering Polar History".
