Objectives of the course

Knowledge:

After finishing the course, the candidate has built knowledge on:

  • Understanding the fundamental principles of measurement, including accuracy, precision, resolution, range, linearity, and sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of various types of sensors and transducers and understanding how these devices convert physical parameters into measurable electrical signals.
  • Understanding the sources of errors and noise in measurement systems.
  • Techniques for modifying sensor outputs to levels suitable for reading.

Skills:

After having followed the course, students will develop skills in:

  • Analyzing data obtained from measurement systems.
  • Specifying and selecting and designing simple measurement systems for electric energy conversion systems.
  • Applying theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems (such as interference, noise issues, and signal distortion) encountered in measurement applications.

General competence:

Students will be competent in:

  • Ability to critically evaluate the performance of measurement systems and suggest improvements or alternatives.
  • Competence in integrating various components of measurement systems.
  • Understanding and applying relevant standards in the design and implementation of measurement systems.
