INF-3315 Privacy Preserving Computation - 10 ECTS

Type of course

The course can be taken as a singular master's-level course.

Admission requirements

Higher Education Entrance Requirement + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar education. The Bachelor degree must contain a specialization in Computer Science worth the equivalent of not less than 80 ECTS credits.

Course content

This course teaches technical and legal aspects of how businesses and organizations can safely use and exchange sensitive data.Topics covers both legal frameworks and privacy preserving technologies like differential privacy, homoporphic encryption, and secure multi-party computations.

INF-3310 Advanced Computer Security

Objectives of the course

Knowledge - The student has knowledge of

  • legal privacy frameworks like the GDPR and The Personal Data Act,
  • different approches to privacy preserving computation;
  • the applications of the different approaches to privacy preserving computation, and
  • the limitations and risks related to the different approaches to privacy preserving computation.

Skills - The student can

  • use set of different techniques and tools to perform privacy preserving computations;
  • analyse and understand the limitations and risks of these different techniques and tools, and
  • present and argue for why the selected techniques and tools preserve privacy when performing the computation.

General competence - The student can

  • develop and extend own competence and expertise,
  • participate actively in professional discussions (oral or written),
  • write scientific and technical reports,
  • present complex topics in and easy to understand and convincing way, and
  • develop and test robust privacy preserving computations.

Language of instruction and examination

The language of instruction is English, and the syllabus material is in English.

Lectures: 30 hours, Colloquium: 30 hours, Laboratory: 30 hours.
