Differential Geometry 2
About the course
The course is included in the study program Mathematical Sciences - master. It is available as a singular or elective course independent of study program, also to exchange students upon approval of the Department of mathematics and statistics.
This course is offered on a conditional basis, so that only one of the courses MAT-3303 and MAT-3111 will run. The decision about which course will run will be made early in the semester upon discussing with the students who have registered for these courses.
Vector bundles, connections, Riemannian geometry, symplectic geometry, vector distributions, jet-calculus, integration on manifolds and de Rham cohomology, Lie groups and algebras.
Admission requirements
Bachelor of science degree in mathematics or equal. Recommended prerequisites is MAT-3110 Differential Geometry 1 or a similar course in differential geometry.
Application code is 9371.
Objectives of the course
The candidate shall:
- obtain a solid knowledge and understanding of connections on vector bundles, various geometries including Riemannian and symplectic, their equivalences and invariants.
- be able to perform calculations in concrete examples, using these concepts, in particular compute curvatures and symmetries of geometric structures.
Prerequisites
Recommended prerequisites
MAT-3110 Differential Geometry
Credit reduction
If you pass the examination in this course, you will get an reduction in credits (as stated below), if you previously have passed the following courses:
