Why study in Northern Norway

Popular and unique programs, a wide range of exchange opportunities, an inclusive student community, and close proximity to stunning nature and cultural experiences – these are just some of the reasons why UiT is a great place to be a student.

Untamed Nature and Endless Activities

At UiT, raw nature is right outside your student housing. All our campuses are close to breathtaking natural experiences that change with the seasons. Witness the northern lights in winter, the midnight sun in summer, hike mountain trails on foot or skis, go whale watching, or explore activities like sailing, cycling, fishing, climbing, kayaking, and countless winter sports.

If you love the outdoors, enjoy staying active, or simply appreciate being in nature, UiT is the perfect place for you!

Strong Internship Opportunities and High Academic Quality

We work hard to make sure as many of our students as possible get real-world experience. For example, we’re the only university that offers mandatory internships for law students.

Around 90% of our graduates say their studies at UiT were directly relevant to their current jobs. No matter which program or campus you choose, you can count on top-notch academic quality.

We ensure that all our students get the support they need through mentorship programs, close academic follow-up, and social activities to make your experience the best it can be.

Culture, Culture, Culture

Tromsø is famous as a vibrant cultural city with an amazing music scene—there’s always something fun happening! You can join Norway's Arctic Student Orchestra or the student radio. Into photography or art? Check out Photorange or Galleri Snerk. We even have a brewing club and a group for drone enthusiasts.

Alta is known for its awesome student community centered around the city’s culture hall and Studenthuset City. Harstad is home to the region’s largest cultural center, and Narvik is famous for its annual culture festival, Vinterfestuka, featuring over 200 events—just to name a few highlights.

International Opportunities

We’re all about international collaboration because it’s key to offering world-class education and research. We’ve got exchange agreements with dozens of countries across several continents.

How about spending a semester in Hawaii, Greenland, Canada, Italy, or China? Where you can go depends on your program, but no matter what you’re studying, we make it easy to take your studies abroad.
