    Research interests

Paediatric imaging warrants meticulous insight into growth and maturation as this may influence the appearances on MRI, CT, ultrasound and radiography. My research during the past 35 years has focused on four main areas; hip dysplasia, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), skeletal dysplasias and abusive trauma, with particular emphasis on the distinction between normal skeletal maturation and pathological change.

Our findings have informed the European screening strategy for congenital hip dysplasia as well as MRI scoring systems for JIA.
