Oliver Vanderpoorten is a MSCA fellow within the Nanoscopy group and Stroehl lab at UiT (Tromsø).
Dr. Vanderpoorten uses UV-, and 2-photon lithography to produce nanofluidic chips at UiT to analyze exosomes and protein aggregates in solution without conventional fluorescent labelling. In particular, he is focussed on amyloid-forming species and oligomers related to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson disease and their study on a single molecule level - combining the tools of "Nanolithography - Nanoscopy - Nanofluidics" to accelerate drug development against amyloid formation and screening for aggregation inhibitors.
Additional interests/projects: Optical trapping, Active colloids, Nanofiltration, 3D microscopy, Organ-on-a-chip

CV
Oliver Vanderpoorten is a MSCA fellow in the field of nanofluidics within the Ultrasound, Microwaves and Optics of UiT. Formerly, he received his PhD at the Centre for Misfolding Disease at the University of Cambridge where he conducted research on nanolithography and nanoscopy methods for the analysis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease related protein aggregates. He holds two master degrees in engineering subjects which give him an applied attitude towards biotechnological applications: a Master in Electrical and Microsystems Engineering from OTH Regensburg (2015) and a second Master's degree in Sensor Technologies from the University of Cambridge (2016). During his PhD in the EPSRC funded Sensor CDT he explored the landscape of nanofluidic chips for various applications related to life sciences and protein misfolding diseases and developed 2-photon lithography as fabrication method for nanofluidic devices. In his free time he's interested in entrepreneurship, sailing, painting and spends his time with outreach at the Erasmus Student Network Tromsø (Vice-president) and by supporting the Arctic Optica Student chapter to explain science to the public in an informal way.
