Research interests
- Spatio-temporal variability in trophic interactions in terrestrial arctic ecosystems, and how they are affected by a changing climate
- Management of mesopredators in the low Arctic
- Population genetics and phylogeography of arctic organisms, both animals and plants
Ongoing projects:
COAT - leader for the arctic fox module on Varanger
CHARTER - Drivers and Feedbacks of Changes in Arctic Terrestrial Biodiversity (EU H2020), lead by Bruce Forbes at the Arctic Centre in Rovaniemi
Interactions of natural and social systems with climate change, globalization, and infrastructure development in Yamal (Russian Arctic) - NSF project lead by Valeriy Ivanov, University of Michigan.
Norwegian Centre for Arctic Ecosystem Genomics (ArcEGen), lead by Inger Greve Alsos, TMU
Felles fjellrev - Together for the Arctic fox: a project funded by Interreg Aurora where public authorities, researchers, and NGOs join forces to strengthen arctic fox populations shared by Norway, Sweden and Finland. The project is lead by Länstyrrelsen i Norrbotn and will focus on conservation measures for the arctic fox, but also on outreach activities to create awareness, involve more interest groups, and improve information availability.
Teaching
- BIO-3013/BIO-8016 Ecology of northern food webs sammen together with Rolf Ims and Eeva Soininen
- Teaching at UNIS (Svalbard) as part of the courses AB-201 (biology of arctic predators)
- supervisor master theses in tundra ecology
Possible topics for a master theses:
- Phenology of reproduction of small rodents (grey-sided vole and tundra vole) in eastern Finnmark in the context of climate change
