    Research interests

    Postdoctoral fellow and Lecturer in critical peace and conflict studies with an academic background in philosophy, cultural studies, and social anthropology.

    BA in Philosophy and Master's degree (Course Completion) in Social Anthropology at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. In addition, MPhil degree in visual and cultural studies and a PhD in Social Anthropology from the Departments of Social Anthropology at the Universities of Tromsø and Bergen in Norway.

    Ethnographic and anthropological research and fieldwork among minorities and Muslim groups (Weyto, Eastern-Gurage, and Siltie) in Ethiopia with topics on ethnicity and case study; identity, belonging and conflictminority identity,  indigeneity and Islamic reformism, identity politics, and conflict.

    Many years of experience in lecturing, seminar teaching, supervision, and as a semester exam examiner and master's thesis examiner for students at master's and bachelor's levels.

    Courses from previous long years of teaching experience include logic and reasoning skills, philosophy (BA level, Addis Ababa and Bahir Dar University), and social anthropology and cultural studies (MA, Addis Ababa University and Institute of Ethiopian Studies)

    Experience as course leader and coordinator from Ethiopia and Norway. 

    Lecture and seminar teaching competence at the centre

    Theories and concepts: Anthropology of violence, anthropology of transitional justice, anthropology of conflict resolution, reconciliation

    Perspectives: Socio-cultural perspectives, anthropological perspective, decolonial and critical perspectives in peace and conflict studies

    Method and methodologies: Qualitative method, Ethnography, qualitative case study, interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity in peace and conflict studies

    Zerihun's specific academic background and teaching experience contribute to the centre's goal of helping students equip themselves with and develop critical thinking skills and multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to describe, analyze and engage with - cases, problems and questions of peace, reconciliation, conflict and violence.
