Incoming exchange students: apply for semester exchange at UNIS (SVALBARD)

The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) is not an accredited institution, and as such exchange students from universities that have a formal agreement with UiT The Arctic University of Norway, can apply to UNIS for courses and re

search and be registered as a student at UiT after being accepted by UNIS.

The application process is composed of TWO parts:

  1. Apply directly to UNIS, then

  2. Apply to UiT (you must be nominated by your university to access UiT's Application Web)

1 APPLY DIRECTLY TO UNIS

Please note that UNIS has a SEPERATE Application Web. This means that you must follow the instructions on UNIS website to complete your application. Please note that questions concerning course selection and requirements at UNIS should be directly to UNIS by email: study@unis.no.

Please MAKE SURE to mention UiT The Arctic University of Norway as your your host institution or affiliation in Norway in your application for research or study at UNIS.

HAVE YOU RECEIVED AN INVITATION EMAIL FROM UiT TO APPLY?

To apply for exchange at UiT:

  1. You must have been nominated by your home university to UiT
  2. You must have received an invitation email from UiT to apply

REGISTER YOUR APPLICATION

The registration is by invitation only. After your nomination, you will receive an invitation email from UiT to register your application. Please check your email account! If you are not sure, send an email to mobility@uit.no.

COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION

You must upload the required documents on UiT's Application (Søknadsweb) within the submission deadlines:

  • Spring Semester: 15 SEPTEMBER (application start) - 31 OCTOBER (deadline).
  • Autumn Semester: 15 MARCH (application start) - 30 APRIL (deadline).

List of required documents:

  1. Latest Transcript of records in PDF
  2. Passport or National ID Card (EU citizens) in PDF.
  3. Complete Learning Agreement (after being accepted/admitted by UNIS)

APPLY FOR HOUSING

After the submission of your application, you must apply for housing without delay to reserve a room. You can cancel your reservation later if you decide NOT to accept your offer of admission. You will receive your housing contract in July for the autumn semester and November for the spring semester.

Deadline for applying for housing: 31 MAY (autumn semester) and 30 NOVEMBER (spring semester).

3 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Follow your application on UNIS Application Web until you have received a final decision. Please note that questions concerning course selection and requirements at UNIS should be directly to UNIS by email: study@unis.no.

ERASMUS+ STUDENTS: After your acceptance by UNIS, you can send your Learning Agreement and Confirmation of Erasmus+ Exchange to mobility@uit.no for signature. In addition, you must send us the email from UNIS that confirms that you have been offered admission.

ALL STUDENTS: you can forward a copy of the acceptance/admission email from UNIS to mobility@uit.no. The Inbound Student Exchange Team will resgiter you as a student at UiT so that you can order a transcript of records of the courses taken at UNIS after the completion of your semester.
