The Department of Computer Science (IFI) is located in Realfagbygget on Campus Tromsø, in Kunnskapsparken Helgeland in Mo i Rana, and in UiT's new premises which in 2023 are being established in Bodø.

The department is organized into 3 sections as well as supporting staff functions. In total, IFI has approximately 100 employees, of which 28 are in permanent scientific positions. In addition, the department has support functions with 6 technical and 4 administrative positions. Others are employed in various temporary positions on R&D projects, including 12 postdocs or researchers and around 25-30 doctoral fellows. There are approximately 420 bachelor's and master's students on the study programs in Computer Science. The department has a stimulating and internationally oriented working environment with employees from many countries.

The department’s objective is to promote research and teaching in Computer Science as a discipline, to demonstrate leadership within our areas of interest and to contribute to society through our education, research, innovation, and dissemination.
