Industrial Complexes and Data Centers

Industrial Complexes

Industrial complexes, including manufacturing, chemical, and energy facilities, need reliable safety systems because of their size and complexity. Harsh conditions and heavy loads can cause structural problems, leading to costly downtime and safety risks. Advanced SHM systems continuously assess structural integrity, supporting predictive maintenance and early damage detection.

Data centers

Aker-NScale data centres in Narvik represent Norway's commitment to advanced digital infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions. Strategically located in the Arctic region, these centres will leverage the area's cool climate and renewable energy sources, primarily hydropower, to ensure energy-efficient and environmentally friendly operations. Together with Open AI and Microsoft it’s an investment of close to 10 billion USD in the Data centres.

By integrating sensors and data analytics, SHM improves safety, extends infrastructure lifespan, and reduces costs in demanding environments like high temperatures, corrosive atmospheres, and heavy loads for the industrial complexes. This research group have interests to focuses on developing robust monitoring solutions for industrial settings, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable operations of data centers. UiT Narvik already collaborates with industrial complexes like LKAB, Kuraas, Fish farms and Aker-Nscale signed a strategic co-operation with UiT where it commits 100 million NOK over the next 10 year.
