Energy development on indigenous lands

This seminar is organized by the TriArc and IndGov projects on the interaction between industry and indigenous peoples, with a special emphasis on green energy development. The seminar takes place October 14th at The Fram Centre – the High North Research Centre for Climate and the Environment.

Fakken Wind Farm, Vannøya, Norway. 
Recent conflicts around the national framework for wind power development in valuable nature areas in Norway has put the spotlight on the difficult balance between combating climate change and protection of biodiversity. In the case of reindeer husbandry and other indigenous land use, the new green power developments also represent additional pressure on already strained pastures and resources.

The workshop will facilitate dialogue and mutual learning between scientific expertise and reindeer husbandry, with a special emphasis on learning from relevant Swedish cases. A workshop in Norwegian with reindeer districts in Troms County and invited stakeholders takes place after the seminar.

We welcome indigenous actors, politicians, industry representatives, and researchers and scientists interested in environmental governance to the seminar.


The seminar is open to all.
