Russia's war against Ukraine has led to the loss of tens of thousands of human lives, enormous material toll, and millions of people fleeing the country.

On this day, one year after the military invasion, there will be solidarity gatherings all over the world – also at UiT.

"We stand with the Ukrainian people in their rightful struggle to defend their country against an illegitimate and brutal occupation. Through this, we also give our support to fundamental principles of the rule of law and basic human rights, says Dag Rune Olsen, Rector at UiT.

UiT Breakfast Seminar and Solidarity Gathering

At UiT the day begins with a UiT Breakfast Seminar in Tromsø directed by the Rector and the Department of Social Sciences.

The two Ukrainian researchers Gaiane Nuridzhanian and Sergei Glebov, will together with Gunhild Hoogensen, professor at the Centre for Peace Studies, converse about what has happened in the past year, and how the war will affect society, research, and people in the future. Associate professor Jonas Stein moderates the conversation.

The event is open to everyone and is also available through online streaming.

After the UiT breakfast, the Rector invites you to a solidarity gathering outside Teorifagbygget in Tromsø.

Several other events will take place during the day. Here is an overview:
