IWAIS 2024 will be organized at premises of UiT- The Arctic University of Norway in Narvik.  

Narvik is a beautiful port town located at 68 degrees north in the Arctic circle of northern Norway, situated between steep mountains and narrow fjords. With an astonishing Arctic nature as a backyard, the city offers a wide range of tourist activities and unforgettable experiences. The city has vast areas of un-spoilt nature, mountains, sea and can offer an abundance of nature activities. In summer time, the stunning nature with its mountains and fjords offer summit walks up to a height of 1500 meters and long hikes in the mountains, while you enjoy the mid night sun. Play golf, your hand at fishing or just relax and take in the stunning scenery. All this is so much better when you have 24 hours light and the ‘Midnight Sun’ in the summer months. Narvik is located 45 km from the Swedish border that also gives you an option to visit two countries in one day.

Narvik is surrounded with high mountains and deep fjords. This part of Arctic region is full of nature and has many tourist activities in summer. Some examples include:

 2) Travel Information

For travel to Narvik, you need to take a flight for Oslo international airport, Norway. After that you have options to take either a local flight, train, or drive to Narvik by car. The most convenient way is to take a local flight from Oslo to Evenes airport. This will take around 1 hour and 20 minutes. 

Airports:

There are two airports in the close surroundings of Narvik (Evenes & Bardufoss). In addition, two more airports (Tromsø & Bodø) are also located, but at some far distance from Narvik as compared to Evenes and Bardufoss. There are daily direct flights from Oslo to these airports. The most convenient/closest and recommended airport to fly is Evenes (EVE). This takes around 1 hours 20 minutes direct flight time from Oslo. Participants can also opt to fly to Kiruna airport in Sweden. This will take around 03 hours drive from Kiruna to Narvik city. Narvik has good train and bus connection with Kiruna. 

Trains:

For people who would like to explore Scandenavian nature more closely can also opt the option to travel to Narvik from Stockholm via train. There is an overnight train from Stockholm to Narvik. With the use of this arctic train service, you can explore different cities of Sweden and can experience the spectacular nature of northern Scandinavia.
