Job description
My doctoral research project continues my earlier work on migration in mathematics education. It explores how Kven and Sámi language and cultural activities may also create opportunities for learning mathematics. More specifically, the project looks at how practical knowledge and practical judgement may involve mathematical thinking. The project is carried out in collaboration with employees at language and culture centres. Together, we explore how learning activities are developed and communicated through local practices, historical knowledge, materials, purposes, and environments. The project is guided by a dialogical approach: knowledge and meaning are understood as developing in relation to different people’s experiences, words, practices, and cultural-historical contexts. In this way, the project explores how practical know-how and practical wisdom can be shared, made visible, and developed in education.
