Skibotn field station

During the years 1980-82, the University of Tromsø built a field station, intended for the sciences such as biology, geology, botanics, physics and astrophysics. The field station in situated in scenic surroundings 6 kilometers from Skibotn – 130 kilometers from Tromsø. The distance to mountains and fjords is short, and the station is in a protected area.

The station is primarily used for courses and seminars for departments at the university. It is also possible for secondary schools to arrange field courses at the station. Courses and seminars arranged by departments at UiT will however take priority.

Facilities

The station has three cabins with a total of 38 beds. The beds are spread over 14 bedrooms. The bedrooms have two, three or four beds. Cabin A and B have a total of 17 beds each, and cabin C has 4 beds. There are no cooking facilities in cabin A and B, but in cabin C you find simple cooking facilities. All cabins have bathroom facilities with showers and drying cabinets.   

The main building consists of kitchen, dining room, living room, teaching room, laboratories and a sauna. No part of the main building will be rented out without our staff present.  

We serve various food, also gluten free, vegetarian etc. We have a professional chef with many years of experience on our staff. We do not have a fixed menu, but set it up week by week depending of number of guests, availability of raw materials as well as the guests’ needs. We do not have a liquor licence. 

Available teaching equipment includes overhead/projector, slide projector, copy machine and blackboards. Consumables such as chalk, markers and paper must be brought by the guests. The field station has wireless internet, but guests must bring their own computers.  

Prices and booking

We are open for bookings Monday - Friday. Our booking form is available in the right-hand menu.

Bookings cannot be considered valid and binding until you have received confirmation from our staff at the Skibotn field station. Please also note that cancellations later than one month before arrival will incur a cancellation fee.
