Takvatnet field station

Photo for infrastructure

The Freshwater Ecology research group has a field station, idyllically located by lake Takvatn in inner Troms. This field station is a central starting point for our research on lake-dwelling fish stocks, primarily char.

In addition, various field courses are arranged for students here, where ecological theory is combined with practical demonstrations and studies. This means i.a. that students literally get "hands-on experience" with the basis of all biological research, namely the collection and analysis of various materials. Furthermore, the station has also become a natural and pleasant gathering point for both professional seminars / discussions and various social celebrations within the group.

In the main building a little up on the hillside there is a nice little kitchen and living room corner, dining table and a couple of bedrooms. With a few extra camp beds and mattresses, there is in a pinch of accommodation for approx. 15 people. Down by the water's edge is a spacious boathouse that houses a new laboratory with room for up to six people, a sturdy aluminum boat and various equipment.

We warmly welcome all interested students and researchers!
