Grand opening of the Norwegian Research School in Global Health for Sustainable Futures

The Research Council of Norway has committed funding for the Norwegian Research School in Global Health for Sustainable Futures for the next eight years.

This initiative is open to PhD students, research-track students, and postdoctoral researchers who are engaged in global health-related projects at any of the partner institutions or in Norwegian-funded projects affiliated with these institutions.   

The University of Bergen leads the research school, with UiT serving as a partner and board member, alongside NTNU, UiO, OsloMet, NMBU, UiS, SAFER Stavanger, Lærdal Global Health, The Norwegian Public Health Institute, NORAD, University of Copenhagen, GlobLife Sweden, and the African Health and Population Research Center (AHPRC).   

Official launch and first annual conference   

On November 3–4, the Research School hosted its first annual PhD and postdoc conference, which also marked the official opening of the school. The event brought together approximately 40 participants from various partner institutions.

The conference featured a variety of sessions, including:   

  • A workshop on effective communication led by Speak Lab.   
  • Insights into the latest release of the Global Burden of Disease project.   
  • An introduction to how AI can be applied in health research.   

In addition to these sessions, the event provided many opportunities for networking, allowing PhD students, postdocs, and senior researchers from different institutions to connect and collaborate.   

The PhD/postdoc conference will be held annually, with the location and topics varying each year. Members of the Research School will also have access to several exclusive opportunities, including:   

  • Travel grants for courses and conferences in Norway.   
  • Two to three specialized courses and workshops each year, free of charge for members.   
  • Online workshops
