Draft EU budget for 2018

The European Commission has published a draft budget for 2018, which includes €11.1 billion for research and innovation under Horizon 2020 and €2.3 billion for education and training under Erasmus+.

The entire 2018 draft EU budget, which envisages €160.6 billion in commitments and €145.4 billion in payments, focuses on the following policy priorities for Europe: jobs, investments, migration and security.

The money for supporting economic growth in 2018 is proposed at €77.3 billion in commitments and includes the following categories:

•  €21.8 billion for growth, employment and competitiveness, including over €11.1 billion for research and innovation under Horizon 2020, €2.3 billion for education under Erasmus+, €339.1 million for SMEs under the COSME programme, and €2.8 billion under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF); and 

•  €2.0 billion for the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI);

The Council of Ministers and the European Parliament are expected to adopt their positions on the EU budget by early autumn.
