Tirpitz Salvage Site Map: Academic Paper 2025
Summary and Link
Research by the Tirpitz Site Project has been published in the open-access journal Remote Sensing (https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/18/1/45). In this paper, the authors have demonstrated that it is possible to image the structure of objects submerged in shallow water using images from UAVs ('drones'), and have produced the first maps of the debris and other objects on the sea floor. The project team is excited to see how much more can be done with this technology.

The Tirpitz Site Project is a joint research endeavour between UiT The Arctic University of Norway and the University of Cambridge’s Scott Polar Research Institute.
