Synergies between ECOCARE and the Youth Climate Justice Project (UCC, ERC)

By: Margherita Paola Poto

At the University College of Cork (UCC), the Youth Climate Justice project is making significant strides in addressing climate justice through the lens of youth engagement and academic research. The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), coordinated by Prof. Aoife Daily and with the contribution of Emily Murray as a PhD student.

The project's connections with ECOCARE and the Ocean Innovation Network (OIN) are  multifaceted, thanks in part to the active involvement of Margherita Paola Poto, who serves on the Advisory Board, and to the constant synergies that Emily is developing between the teams and the research areas. Emily Murray has been instrumental in bridging the gap between these teams, contributing to a series of collaborative efforts that underscore the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to climate justice.

Among these collaborative outputs are two significant publications co-authored and co-edited by the team: a research article and a book that delve into pertinent issues surrounding climate justice and ocean literacy.

Furthermore, the establishment of a living laboratory on Ocean Literacy underlines the project's commitment to practical, hands-on learning and community engagement.

For those interested in a deeper dive into the Youth Climate Justice project's activities and its collaboration with ECOCARE and OIN, Emily Murray's blog posts provide a wealth of information. Her entries, such as "Children's Right to a Healthy Ocean at the OIN Workshop" and "Improving Ecological Literacy: New Publication Co-authored by Emily Murray," offer a glimpse into the impactful work being done at the intersections of youth advocacy, environmental education, and climate justice.
